Trachycarpus fortunei var. Tesan is still hardly available in the market and is reputed for its winter hardiness; it tolerates temperatures down to -20 degrees centigrade! Compared to the common fortunei, the Tesan develops a thicker trunk and has more compact, stiffer leaves.
