Description
Clerodendrum bungei, commonly called Rose glory bower, Glory flower or Mexican Hydrangea, is a unique plant especially because of the smell emitted by the leaves. These leaves smell like peanut butter, especially when bruised, which is why this plant is called peanut butter plant in some languages. Aside from the smell, the plant is also enormously popular for its large, clustering flowers. People walking past Clerodendrum bungei often pause to appreciate these flowers.
In most of Europe, it is best to keep the plant somewhat dry during winter for the best chance to survive the cold. In spring, new flowers will emerge. The plant generally grows approximately 1,5 metres tall, though it can be pruned as well. Pruning can even increase the amount of flowers that will emerge. Clerodendrum bungei requires very little and easy to maintain, as long as the plant gets some sun and water. And ideal plant for a border or ina container.
