Strelitzia reginae - Bird of Paradise

Strelitzia reginae - Bird of Paradise

Strelitzia reginae is an exotic houseplant and tub plant with exceptionally beautiful flowers, which resembles a bird's head, hence the name 'Bird of paradise'. The ultimate tropical flower!

Strelitzia reginae is popular as a houseplant that can even go outside during summer. As a tub plant or as a houseplant, the beautiful Bird of Paradise flower gives a special atmosphere to your living room, balcony, terrace or your garden. It is a stalkless, 1-2 m (3-6 feet) high plant with evergreen oval, lanceolate leaves. The petioles are long. The flower stalks are almost as long as the leaves. At the top they carry a horizontal boat-shaped bract with 4-6 orange with blue, upright flowers.

This plant comes from South Africa, but is also grown in Madeira and the Canary Islands.

This Strelitzia needs a lot of light and regular watering, but avoid "wet feet".
