The Strelitzia reginae is a stalkless, 1-2 m (3-6 feet( high plant with evergreen oval, lanceolate leaves. The petioles are long. The flower stalks are almost as long as the leaves. At the top they carry a horizontal boat-shaped bract with 4-6 orange with blue, upright flowers.
This plant comes from South Africa, but is also grown in Madeira and the Canary Islands.
The strelitzia needs a lot of light and regular watering. But avoid "wet feet".
