Description
Lady Palms are very elegant, graceful multi stemmed palms, growing to around 3-4 meters (9-12 feet) tall. These beauties have deep green, glossy leaves. The stems can be covered in brown fibres. This palm is often called Bamboo palm due to the coarse, fibrous material with which the canes are covered.
Rhapis excelsa is easy to grow, being adaptable to a wide range of conditions and soil types. It prefers neutral to slightly acid, well draining soils, and greatly benefits from regular application of compost / organic matter / organic fertilizer. It is best grown in part to full shade, on the verandah, under trees, or a shady, sheltered spot in the garden.
Rhapis excelsa can be grown in full sun, but leaves will yellow and can burn easily. Abundant water needs to be provided if this palm is to grow in full sun.
