Musa basjoo - Japanse vezelbanaan

Musa basjoo - Japanse vezelbanaan

The Musa basjoo is the most suitable and common banana for planting outdoors. The beautiful leaves give your garden a 'jungle-feeling'. This hardy banana grows fast and produces enormous pseudo-stems of about 2m in length, with a crown of very large, exotic, leathery leaves that are 2m long and 70cm wide. This banana plant grows well in open ground, but also in a pot or tub on your terrace.

The leaves are not evergreen, but the roots are supposed to be hardy down to -10°C. Protect them well in the winter, the leaves will die off but grow quickly again in the spring. The better you protect the trunk and roots from the cold, the better your plant will recover in spring. Protect the roots with a thick layer of straw or mulch around the base of the plant. Cut off the old leaves of the plant. You can protect the trunk by tying hay and reed mats around it.

The musa basjoo is a hungry and thirsty plant. So you will have to work a bit on your homemade jungle! Treat the musa basjoo to organic or liquid fertilizer every fortnight and water the banana plenty.

Pay attention! The leaves will be cut due to packaging.
