Magnolia grandiflora Gallisoniensis - Southern magnolia
Magnolia grandiflora Galissonière is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 30m (90 feet) in countries around the Mediterranean Sea. The young twigs turn from yellow-green to browny and are softly hairy. The leaf buds, which are long-lasting, also have the same soft hair. The oval leaves are thick, remarkably shiny and leathery at the top. The underside of the oval leaf is grey to rusty brown and softly hairy. The leaf that appears in spring and autumn and autumn is badly digested and must be removed.
The flowers of the Galissonière are creamy white with dark purple stamens. These flowers have a strong and more pleasant smell. The Magnolia grandiflora 'Galissonière' has little fruit formation.
