Buxus sempervirens

Box

This plant is the ubiquitous box, known for its use in many a garden hedge. Its great advantage is that its dense growth can be easily pruned to shape, making it ideal for both relaxed and informal planting. In common parlance the plant may be referred to as a palm; the plant has, however, no relation to the palm genus.

 

Buxus should be planted out in loose, preferably chalky soil. It needs comparatively little maintenance.
