Butia paraguayensis - Dwerg Yataypalm
An interesting, rare, somewhat hardy dwarf Butia from southern Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay; this palm rarely grows taller than 180 cm, but specimens with 2-metre trunks exist. Although there is great variation among palms, it has a short, slender trunk and strongly curved blue-green leaves with partial leaves in a v-shape. This dwarf yatay is best suited as an ornamental plant for temperate and subtropical gardens, where it can withstand some frost and considerable heat.
