Asimina triloba - Pawpaw

The Pawpaw is a popular fruit in North America, and is gaining popularity here. It's quite easy to grow and maintain and, besides providing edible fruit, is popular for its purple flowers and bright, golden yellow autumn colours. 

Asimina triloba, better known as Pawpaw, paw-paw or Papaw, is a small tree or large shrub with large leaves and fruits that is indigenous to North America and Canada. It is the only pawpaw that grows naturally outside the tropics. 

The large fruits are edible and taste somewhat like custard. They often appear around the sixth or seventh year. In addition, these fruits are healthy and do not spoil quickly (if refrigerated, the fruits can last multiple weeks before spoiling). The leaves, when bruised, are aromatic and smell similiar to the green bell pepper.
